So as we have only a few days left in 2009, I thought I would reflect.
Top Ten Websites I’ve been to/discovered this year.
- Twitter-keeping up with the news, friends, and everything else 140 characters at a time.(shameless plug: Follow me-@lindseytheis) Check out Twitter if you haven’t already.
- The Blogo Teque (in English, translated to the Take Away Shows)-By far the best musical website I have found, EVER. Each week, Founder Vincent Moon and a team of contributors invite an artist or a band to play in the streets, in a bar, a park, or even in a flat or in an elevator, and film the whole session for a video podcast they post and blog about. It’s in French, but there’s a link to translate the blog text into English. Check out blogotheque if you haven’t already.
- Lookbook-For all the fashionably curious or inept hipsters in my life, this streetwear blog is something I check every couples of days, if not more. You can search by accounts, designers, articles, locations… Get a look at lookbook.
- Etsy.com-My old roommate is what I would consider a vintage junkie. She’s like a walking scene from an old Audrey Hepburn movie, and her latest thing is to make her own homemade vintage-inspired clocks. I think we’ll be seeing her work on this site very soon. Here’s a link to etsy-try the color search-it’s my fave!
- Digg-Social networking meets news gathering. Digg members submit everything from news articles to videos to images to blog entries. From there, other people rank digg posting by next Once something is submitted, other people see it and “digg” what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough “diggs”, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see. Can you digg it?
- Skype-I owe this software application a big thanks, because my first live reporting experience was through this online for the Naperville elections. With Skype, users can sign up for free, make voice calls over the internet, most are for free. IM’s, file transfers, and video conferences are also possible too. Let’s skype.
- Hulu and Vimeo- Hulu > CBS.com and ABC.com episode player. Vimeo > Youtube.com. Look at hulu.com and vimeo.com.
- Grooveshark.com-this online music search engine and music streaming service is different to Pandora for one reason alone. You can pick your playlists. Users can search for, stream, and upload music free of charge that can be played immediately or added to one or many playlists. Listen to the music at grooveshark.com.
- My reporting website- (Another shameless plug.) Launched this year, features updated videos, my reel, and resume! Show me some e-love at lindseytheis.com.
- Musicovery- This internet radio service is another take on Pandora, but it rates music you like with an interactive and customized sound. Listeners rate songs after picking a genre and mood (energetic, dark, calm, or positive). While Pandora picks new music suggestions the user’s choice of artist or song or genre, Musicovery “discovers” from a variety of artistic. A typical playlist might rang from an underground R&B artist to a lo-fi group from another country. Last but not least, here’s a link to musicovery.com.
